Find your fit: firmness, size and which model
One thing worth knowing before anything else: this pillow is firm and flat. It is not a soft crescent you sink into. My Brest Friend calls that a firm, flat design for airway safety, and that is the honest reason for it. A flat surface keeps baby's head and body in line. A soft one lets her chin drop toward her chest.

Firm and flat by design
Most nursing pillows are a soft crescent. Baby sinks in, drifts toward the gap in the middle, and you spend the feed holding her back in place with your arm. The firm flat top is what solves that, and it is why My Brest Friend describes the design in terms of airway safety rather than softness. Flat and firm keeps her head level with her body. Soft and curved does not.
For awake, supervised feeding only. Always hold baby.
A generic crescent pillow
- Soft fill compresses under baby's weight
- She drifts toward the gap in the middle
- A gap is left between pillow and your body
- You hold the position with your arm and lean in
My Brest Friend
- Firm, flat 100% polyurethane foam that holds its shape. A flat design for airway safety, not a soft one
- Two feeding risers lift baby's head a little to encourage a correct latch
- Patented wraparound support, a 360 degree wrap with no gap to fall into
- A backrest behind you, 6 in on most models, so you sit back instead of hunching
- Clinical-grade support. This is the pillow hospitals buy, in the same build you get
It will not feel like a regular pillow, and that is the point. If you are looking for something soft to lean against, this is the wrong pillow and we would rather say so now. If you want baby held steady at breast height while your back and arms rest, this is the one.
Will it fit me?
On the single-baby pillows the strap fits waists 28 to 44 in (71 to 112 cm). On the Twin and Professional Twin it is 32 to 46 in (81 to 117 cm). Those are My Brest Friend's approximate ranges, and no extender belt is made, so it is worth measuring before you order.
How to measure: put the tape around your body just above your hips, where the pillow will actually sit, wearing what you would normally wear at home. Do not pull it tight.
Over 44 in on the single-baby range? The Twin is the wider body, and it works perfectly well for one baby.
The pillow sits above a caesarean incision rather than against it, which is why it comes up so often in reviews from mothers recovering from surgery.
On in three steps
- Put the pillow at your waist with the backrest behind you, and close the clasp at your right side.
- Tighten the strap until the pillow sits level at breast height.
- Sit back against the chair or headboard, then bring baby to the pillow.
The buckle is a silent release, so it unclips with one hand and without a loud snap.

If it feels wrong in the first week, it is nearly always one of three things: the strap is too loose, you are sitting too far forward, or baby is placed too low on the surface. Snug in week one is the design working, not a sizing problem.
What you get, and how to look after it
It arrives in full shape, not compressed. No fluffing, no waiting 48 hours. Take it out and use it.
- Covers zip off and machine wash: warm water, gentle cycle, no bleach, air dry. Never the dryer, it shrinks them.
- The foam insert is spot clean only, and should never be vacuum sealed for storage. It will not regain its shape.
- A new foam insert can have a faint smell. My Brest Friend says it is not harmful; take the cover off and air it 12 to 24 hours out of direct sunlight.
- The Super Deluxe slipcover has an integrated waterproof liner so leaks never reach the foam. The Deluxe and Original do not have one.
For feeding only. Always hold baby, and do not use the pillow while standing.
Newborn to 18 months
It fits from the first week through to around 18 months and about 20 lb, for breastfeeding and for bottle feeding on either side. The same flat platform holds baby at chest height whichever way you feed.

Covers are 100% baby-soft polyester, except the organic models, which are 100% cotton, and the Oatmeal Waffle, which is a woven cotton. Original, Deluxe and Organic slipcovers fit each other. Super Deluxe, Twin and Professional Twin do not, they are a different shape, so buy a spare cover to match the pillow you own. The one real structural difference in the range is the backrest: everything except the Basic gives you the full 6 in, or 5 in on the twin bodies.

Honest reasons it might not suit you
Better you know now than after the box is open, because an opened pillow cannot come back.
- You want something soft to lean on. This is firm on purpose. It will feel hard if you expected a cushion.
- You want one pillow for pregnancy and feeding. This is a feeding pillow, not a body pillow.
- You need to carry it around. The foam models are bulky. The Inflatable Travel exists for exactly that.
- Your waist is outside 28 to 44 in. Measure first. There is no extender belt. The Twin runs 32 to 46 in and is the wider option, even for one baby.
- You run warm. Plush covers hold heat. Choose the Oatmeal Waffle woven cotton or an organic cotton cover.
Not sure? Email support@adorling.com before you order and we will tell you honestly. We would rather lose the sale than take back a pillow nobody can use.
Questions we get asked
Why is it so firm and flat?
My Brest Friend describes it as a firm, flat design for airway safety. A flat surface keeps baby's head level with her body and holds her at breast height, which takes the load off your back and arms. A soft pillow compresses under her weight, drops her below the latch and lets her chin fall toward her chest. It is not meant to feel like a bed pillow.
Will it fit a larger frame or plus size?
The pillow wraps around you and the strap adjusts from 28 to 44 in (71 to 112 cm). Measure just above your hips, where the pillow sits, and compare before ordering. My Brest Friend does not make an extender belt. The Twin runs 32 to 46 in (81 to 117 cm) and works for one baby just as well, so that is the answer if you need more room.
Can I use it for bottle feeding?
It is designed for breastfeeding, and the same flat platform holds baby at chest height for bottle feeding on either side.
Does it arrive flat or compressed?
No. It ships in full shape, not vacuum packed, ready to use. Never vacuum seal it for storage, the foam will not regain its shape.
Does the foam smell when it is new?
A new insert can have a faint smell, which My Brest Friend says is not harmful. Take the cover off and air it for 12 to 24 hours out of direct sunlight.
How do I wash it?
The zip-off cover goes in the machine: warm water, gentle cycle, no bleach, air dry, never the dryer. The foam insert is spot clean only. On the Super Deluxe, the integrated waterproof liner stops leaks reaching the foam.
